Basic Kindle Models & Features
This is the e-reader for the serious reader. It allows you to download and save up to 1,100 eBooks, which is the equivalent of taking a huge home library with you anywhere, anytime you want. It has a built in back-light that’s easy on the eyes and illuminates the background for a perfect read in any lighting condition. Even with the light on, the battery will last about 8 weeks. Check out the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library: 270,000 books to borrow for free with no due dates, and that’s including over 100 current and former New York Times best sellers.
I bought a Kindle Fire for my wife when it first came out. I did a ton of research and pouring through tablet comparisons to make sure I was getting the right tablet for her at the best price. This thing has all the features you’d expect on a tablet and more. She can browse the internet, download all her favorite apps, games and she has her email. I also signed up as an Amazon Prime Member so she gets instant access to tons of great movies and books. The thing she really likes is the library option. She gets to check out any book for one month and then when she returns it, she just checks out another one, it’s like a revolving library.
Kindle Fire HD
The newest Kindle is the HD. After seeing how much my wife enjoyed the Fire, I decided to buy a Fire HD for myself since I really like watching movies on it. The Fire is basically an iPad with a much smaller price tag. The screen is beautiful on this thing. It has an anti-glare and 1280×800 HD display and the touch response is extremely smooth. It has a dual band antenna which gives it amazing download and streaming speed. With dual driver stereo speakers the sound that comes out of this tablet is impressive to say the least. I definitely made the right choice with the Fire HD.
All of the Kindle models come with a 3G (4G for the Fire HD) option to give you internet access on the go. Also be sure to buy a cover or case with your Kindle. I have two small boys and believe me, with all the games and movies available they will be sure to use this thing as much if not more than you. So make sure you get a cover that protects the unit from falls. If you are worried about screen scratches they also sell the film that will protect it from those incidentals.
